This home is being planned for a Veteran or active-duty military family in recognition of the sacrifices they make in service to our country and the unique housing challenges many military families face. Stable, affordable housing is critical for veterans and active-duty families as they transition between deployments, navigate service-related disabilities, and work to build long-term financial security. Homeownership provides not only stability, but dignity, safety, and a foundation for family well-being.

The design of the home will be tailored to the selected family’s size and accessibility needs, with the potential to include 2–5 bedrooms and 1–2 bathrooms. Accessibility features may include handicap-accessible elements such as zero-entry access to support mobility and long-term livability.

The home will be purchased by this deserving family, who will complete 15–20 hours of financial literacy and homeownership education, along with a minimum of 200 hours of “sweat equity” alongside Habitat staff, volunteers, and community partners prior to closing. This partnership model reinforces financial preparedness, pride of ownership, and long-term housing success.

Habitat for Humanity of South Central Minnesota serves families earning between 40% and 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI), supporting households facing significant barriers to safe and affordable housing. By prioritizing veteran and military families, Habitat helps ensure those who have served our nation have access to stable homes and strong communities in which to thrive.

Construction costs for this home are expected to reach or exceed $250,000–$300,000.
