Brief Description: Providing affordable homeownership in collaboration with high school trades training. Goodhue County Habitat for Humanity is partnering with Goodhue School District (IDS# 253) to construct an affordable single-family home. The collaborative project will help meet the needs for affordable housing and for workforce training in the construction trades. This home will be constructed near the high school in Goodhue and moved to a permanent site in Goodhue County at the end of the school year. GCHFH serves as the general contractor with Goodhue Schools providing an instructor to supervise and train construction students in safety and construction techniques. Students will receive hands-on, transferable skills in home construction. Qualified subcontractors will perform more technical aspects of home construction and will provide students with general orientation to their individual trades. GCHFH will sell the home to a deserving family who will assist with construction of their home and receive homeownership and financial training. Other GCHFH volunteers will aid with construction as needed and will set an example for the homeowner and students to continue volunteering for non-profit organizations of their choosing. The partner family has not yet been selected, but the home is sized to meet the needs of the family and moved to the Goodhue County city preferred by the family. GCHFH provides homeownership opportunities to families in the 30-80% AMI range for Goodhue County, providing those with the most need with benefits of homeownership.
