Callaway County Housing Needs Assessment

In response to the growing housing needs within the Central Missouri Community Action (CMCA) eight-county region, CMCA staff identified the need for comprehensive housing needs assessments and action plans within each county they serve. A housing needs assessment is designed to collect data to identify challenges and needs within the community, connect with community stakeholders to capture local knowledge, and suggest strategies to better meet the housing needs of current and future residents. The geographic focus for this study is Callaway County, Missouri, including the Cities of Fulton and Holts Summit. Where data or local knowledge was available, the Towns of Auxvasse, Kingdom City, and Mokane were also included. This analysis, provided through technical assistance from the national nonprofit MHP, is based on the collection and evaluation of quantitative data, such as examinations of sociodemographic trends, economic and employment conditions, current housing stock, housing prices, rental prices and vacancy rates, cost burdens, and the capacity of vacant properties to accommodate
residential development. An overview of these findings is summarized here.
